Connect Custom Domain

Connecting your custom domain might seem complicated at first. Don't worry, this 5-minute tutorial will guide you step-by-step on how to make it happen!

Note: You can only connect custom domain if you're on either Limited or Pro plan. If you don't have a domain yet, you can purchase from us!

A. Do this on your Strikingly site editor:

Go to you site editor and click Settings > Domains. Set your desired domain on the custom domain box and click "Update."

Note: Make sure to type your domain in lowercase to avoid the "Page not found" error when accessing your site.

If you purchased your domain from Strikingly, you're done! No need to do the following steps. We'll take care of the rest for you!

B. If you bought your domain from other registrars, follow the instructions below:

Log in to the domain registrar where you purchased your domain, and complete the following steps:

1. Set up URL forwarding

Forward the naked domain (e.g. yourdomain.com) to the www subdomain (e.g. www.yourdomain.com). Please make sure that masking/masked forwarding/iFrame is not selected (in other registrars, this is called stealth forwarding.)

Note: Make sure that you do NOT forward to http://page.strikingly.com. Your Strikingly URL should not appear anywhere in your domain settings.

Forward

Forwarded to

yourdomainhere.com

http://www.yourdomainhere.com

If your domain registrar does not support URL Forwarding, set up A records instead. Host (A Records)

Value

IP Address

@ or yourdomainhere.com

54.183.102.22

2. Add one CNAME record

Go to your domain's host record settings or zone file editor. If you already have a CNAME or A record for WWW, make sure to edit/delete those so you end up with only the one listed below.

Note: Do not change your nameserver! You should keep your nameserver and only add this host record.

CNAME/Alias

Points to/Address

www

www.yourdomainhere.com.s.strikinglydns.com

Example:

  • Domain: genesisdomingo.net

Note: "Name" field shows the whole site URL as it was automatically added by the host/registrars. Some would only require "www".

3. Save these settings. That's it!

Check back after a few hours (up to 48 hours) and see if your site is up! Be sure to clear your browser cache before you check to see if the domain is working.

Domain still not working? Use this checklist

1. If you're getting "Page not found" error, check your Strikingly settings! On your site editor, Go to Settings > Custom Domain. Delete your domain url, click Update, and then enter your "www.domain.com" again. Update, save, and check the page!

2. Make sure to type your domain in lowercase only. Adding your custom domain with uppercase letters would also cause the "Page not found" error.

3. If that doesn't help, email us at support@strikingly.com! Send your domain registrar screenshots and we'll help you find a way.

If after 24 hours and your domain is still not connected, contact us at support@strikingly.com or chat with us.
